Project Smile is an initiative of Michmash and Almonds Photography which specialises in children’s photography. We believe that because children grow so fast, infectious moments framed in their beautiful smiles ought to be captured in print.
Project Smile is the expression of a passion to create awareness of Autism by showcasing the smiles of some beautiful children challenged by this condition.
If you’ve met me before you’d know I love to smile. I would like the special smiles of kids living with Autism to remind those caring for them and others living and learning alongside them that these kids feel joy, excitement and pleasure just like the rest of us.
In Nigeria, Autism is still very much shrouded in mystery and a measure of stigma. We probably exempt children like these from our list of beautiful folk. But they are, and a simple smile could sensitise the world to that amazing, often overlooked reality…
I would like to use the occasion of my 16th birthday to have an exhibition of pictures of the smiles of children living with Autism, which will be taken by me. My aim is to raise awareness about their plight by getting as many people as possible to smile back. Their smiles are infectious…I promise.
olumorewa fola alade. beautiful as always.
